British journalist and Times Sport chief football writer, Henry Winter, has faulted West Ham United for making French defender, Kurt Zouma, captain despite the controversy about him kicking a cat.
DAILY POST recalls that Thames Magistrates’ Court in June, 2022, sentenced Zouma to 180 hours of community service after pleading guilty to kicking and slapping a cat.
The court also banned the West Ham defender from keeping cats for five years, and ordered him to pay nearly £9,000 in court costs.
Zouma captained West Ham to a historic 3-1 victory over Chelsea at London Stadium on Sunday.
However, Winter insisted that he doesn’t deserve to wear West Ham’s captain band.
He said new signing, James Ward-Prowse is more deserving because “he’s a natural captain and he’s never kicked a cat.”
On his Twitter handle, Winter wrote; “Kurt Zouma captains WHU [West Ham United]. Why not James Ward-Prowse? He’s obviously new to the club but he’s a natural captain and he’s never kicked a cat.”
